Walk In My Shoes!

On Friday the 10th of October.

It was World Mental Health Day. A day dedicated to educating people on mental health and outlining the importance of mental health. Our school is celebrating this day by taking part in St. Patrick's Mental Health Foundations

"Walk in My shoes"

This is an event targeted to raise awareness for Mental health, Dublin's popular radio station 98FM has also become greatly involved in helping raise awareness.
This event involves, people in a work place or school, wearing in a pair of shoes that are "funky" or "mismatched" shoes. Our school is collecting €2 from each student that wears in such shoes.

Its Is fact that....

  • 1 in every 4 people have suffered from mental illness in their lifetime.
  • Younger people feel particularly vulnerable, with stresses to succeed and find their place in the world. Proof of this statement is that suicide is the number one cause of death with young men aged between 18-25 in Ireland.

I thought it was a great day, that gently dealt with the on going struggle of mental health. It was done in a positive and fun way, which ensures people that they're not alone.

Week One WORK!

Hi Everyone!

So last Wednesday (October 1st), I had my first day of work experience. For my first work placement, I am in a Garda Station.
I was a little nervous going in but because of my family members occupations I kind of knew what to expect.
The day went by quite fast, but I was very busy!

I got to go to the Central Criminal Courts of Justice and listen to a few minor hearings, I thought that was very interesting! It is a very modern building with all sorts of criminal courts in it. The high courts that deals with serious crimes (murders etc) were not open until this week. I hope I get a chance to see them.

I was also shown a report book that must be done before going to a hearing in the Courts. (Lets just say there's A LOT of paperwork!!) I got to see a lot of the equipment used like finger print scanners, PULSE data base and load other tech equipment.

Really looking forward to next week..

You can read about my work Experience details in more depth here.

Bye!
